Srilankan Cricket Team Attack: some answers Questioned

Posted by: yaser In: Undesireable Sound

Srilankan Team Attack3rd March 2009 marks another tragic incident in the history of Pakistan. Death of a sportsman in such incidents is the last nail in the coffin of reputation of any country as sportsman are generally considered neutral and a kind of ambassador no one would hit. Details aside (as you already know about it), one thing is for sure that the policemen who died in this incident deserve a tribute. These men saved the honor (left over) of the country by giving their lives.

Srilankan team had done us a big favor by visiting the country who was deprived of cricket for more than a year now. Their is no doubt that this incident has completely ruined Pakistan reputation of a livable place. As I said before (after Marriot blast) this is one of the efforts to portray Pakistan as a place even worst than Afghanistan where one can’t even walk on the roads (if you do you would risk a limb or your life by suicide attacks or gun fights). Police is on its toes to get hold of people responsible for this incident. Even though the saga looks more like the Mumbai attacks I wont bother going into any conspiracy theory (My mind is right now cooking hundreds of em), there are few questions that are bothering me since this incident happened. Srilankan team’s security was high priority, they were given 2 elite force mobiles and a lot of police assistance with alternate routes etc (I am not questioning the fool proof security system) then whats the explanation and answer of these questions,

  • 30 Minutes Crossfire A: As per police and investigators there was a 30 minute cross-fire between terrorists and elite force. As per my knowledge elite force is a highly trained force (the best in the country) equipped to deal with such situations then how come they didn’t kill any of the terrorists? My guess is its made up and even though they gave resistance they were taken by surprize from all directions.
  • 30 Minutes Crossfire B: The area is very near Qaddafi Stadium if it happened for 30 minutes why no backup arrived where there would be a lot of security force available in stadium as well as around that area.
  • Mishandling of evidence: Why investigators were mishandling the weapons which would result in removal of finger prints (could be a useful evidence if this comes out to be cross border terrorism).
  • [Most Important] Bullet Proof: A team which gives you a favor of coming to your country when no one wants to. They are provided with fool proof security, elite force, alternate routes yet NO BULLET PROOF Bus.

keeping everything aside, at this point only thing comes to mind that our so called highly equipped and trained security agencies are not trained enough or they themselves doesn’t want to control the situation. Though the terrorist attacks are so well planned but the count “12″ this time was not something that just could vanished even though camera eye could catch them. It’s hilarious. Lahore is not that big of city that in the presence of resistance/cross fire someone could get away without any hostage. Who is behind this…. was this with the consent of government official? Were some super powers involved in this to make their grounds to attack our land? Did someone just sell our country?

This is big blot on the face our future. the only thing i could see after this is another Bosnia, Afghanistan, Iraq. Will there be any existance of Pakistan (May God make them dreadful example for everyone who just think of this)

I think a major responsibility also goes to the move to change all the top police officers in Lahore during the recent Governor Rule. There was so much change that i guess the planners who planned the security none of them were there when it was time to execute it

There can be many question and many finger pointings but the real question is how can 12 men kept shooting for 30mins and then suddenly disappears from the scene and no one runs after them?
They were 12 men and they must have hijacked more than one vehicle, is any of those vehicles been found?
And most importantly none of the 12 attackers were killed or severly wounded?
If the 12 attackers kept shooting for 30mins and killed 7 security personels (with all due respect to police) then where were the Elite force and police was shooting?

Ok, now here are my two cents…the place where this incident happened was the now infamous liberty roundabout. There are 4 major routes coming to that area; 1. Gaddafi Stadium, 2. Center Point, 3. Liberty and 4. Main Blvd. Now as per the media and police reports the shootout was happening for like 25 minutes. If there was any police or security force (with sufficient training), a simple flanking maneuver might have been sufficient to kill/capture most, if not all, of the assailants. Just cordon off all the escape routes and move in. The fact of the matter was that there was no backup! there was no one on duty who could have done this. I mean the latest CCTV footage clearly shows 3 assailants on bike (with their AK-47s) showing and a police cruiser just passing them without incident? A lot of unanswered questions remain…The lives of those Policemen were in vain as not one of the terrorists was apprehended. They made a full frontal all out attack in broad daylight on Pakistani soil and the so called Police and Securuty Forces couldnt do s***. Heck, if it werent for the bus driver, what grim picture would this have been today? The Elite force is supposed to be well, the elite…do they not get combat trainings to handle such situations or do they just get training on how to escort politicians? A sad day indeed!
