New threats due to legalising mobile connection sales

Posted by: yaser In: Telecommunication| Undesireable Sound

Ever since the process of legalizing mobile connection sales started it has given birth to many controversies. When PTA pushed all the TELCOS a little harder and had a strict stance on legalizing all the existing SIMs, mobile service provider eventually had to act upon the orders. Recently another controversy came on the scene when PTA found out that one of the TELCOs was found assigning fake information to already sold SIMs just to close the case (lets not name the service provider for now).

The fact is that most of them are doing the same thing and there is quite a possibility that someone out there is using a SIM that has been either issued on your ID card or has been assigned bogus information. Frankly TELCOS are not the only one to be blamed over here. The process starts from the sales outlets where your submitted information is not properly routed and often your filled form is mixed up with others and people end up getting there names assigned to someone else’s connection (I found out that one of the connections i was using was not mine as per the telco’s database, despite the fact that I had submitted all the required information).

The later part is easier to verify where you can check your own SIM if it belongs to you however there is no definite process to verify if someone else is using a SIM on your name and THAT SOMEONE COULD BE ANYONE (a terrorist, dacoit, some fraudulent person etc.).

This has already happened to few of my friends and relatives, where mobile phone connections on there name were misused and they were inquired about it. In my opinion there should be a proper process to verify all the connections which exist on your name because this problem has already started to emerge as a prominent issue and its better to act now by taking a preventive measure than later with a corrective measure (when the loss will be far greater).

well, i agree but have to add one more point. Sales people are at times distributing Sim cards without a proper identification and it does happen in rural areas and these are the people who are mostly involved in deliberately changing the owner information at the back end.

Its really horrible!

PTA should introduce some legislation in order to facilitate Telecos customers by using it they can check how many numbers are on their name & then they should allow to block the fake numbers…

first there should be a check through PTA in the companies that there are more than 1 sims registered on anybody’s identification then it should be verified and blocked otherwise (to filter process and clean the backlog) with this should be the simple process like we recieve our credit cards the sims should b posted to our mailing address then verified then activated.
