Warid Postpaid bill payment through scratch card

Posted by: yaser In: Telecommunication| Undesireable Sound

Few days ago i was just checking Warid’s website when i came across there new service through which user can pay there postpaid bill through scratch card. I was impressed by the fact that finally someone realized that bill payment is a “PIA”. Later i realized that the service was as always offered by Telenor way before Warid did. Regardless of the fact I found it very useful as I am that kind of a person who is often busy in a lot of things and often ends up getting his outgoing calls block due to delayed bill payment. Interestingly it happens on Sundays most of the time :) and at that time you have no method to pay the bill because

  • Business Centers and franchises are closed
  • I have Alfalah Credit card but they ask me to call from my mob to pay the bill(how can that be possible) or my home phone (if i am not at home then thats also an issue.)
  • Online payment (that was good but every good thing must come to an end! Jeyo Warid)

With this new scratch card payment solution, life could become a lot easier (as I can combine it with the UBL online prepay scratch card service). This reason and my natural laziness led me to try this service. Keeping the stability of the service in mind I sent a 1K scratch card , keeping my fingers crossed but WTH SMS bounced back saying you cannot SMS (obviously due to blocked outgoing.) Still wanted to give it a try I grabbed a cell from a friend and used “Pay family/friend bill” method to recharge. Got instant notification that my phone bill has been adjusted. I was like wOw. 30 minutes down the time line and i was still sitting there staring at my phone because the outgoing wasn’t working. Called there help line and was asked to hold for 5 minutes and then was informed that it will be working after 10 minutes. After an hour had to make another call to there help line and almost yelled at them to make it work and they gave me lame excuses like you haven’t paid enough if its less than 60 % then outgoing starts working automatically and you were few rupees short. I wonder what kind of idiots they have to make such policies and excuses (even at 70% bill status your outgoing still works and only gets blocked at 90%).
With this horrible expererince its very much unlikely for me to use that option again, however there is one more fact that deserves to be mentioned here. you can also use this service dialing by 321 which for don’t know what reason was not mentioned on there site :/

Well Aaron forgot to paste his website for which he was doing SEO :P
Anyways well yea I had to go through the same problem. Firstly I dint know about it and as always when my outgoing got blocked on Sunday I called 321 and asked them to open it till Monday morning. I was expecting the same reply that sir do you have Alfalah credit card(always have to hear this!) and the reply always is NO! But this time he had something else to say and that was the prepaid scratch card. Abdullah tariq told me about this few months that he has suggested this idea and hopefully it will be implemented soon. I was surprised but it was some relief to me since I always had to request them on sundays to temporarily open my connection ;)
Anyways later on Abdullah told me that right now its a soft launch and they are not publicizing it so that proper testing can be done…

I didn’t got your point yaser, if it works and 1k was payed to your account then it means this service works. Now your outgoing was not opened as you havn’t payed your bill in full (why :P ) and you are claiming that warid suck for this … :’D

@ Salman: thanks for the insight :) but why so early soft launch. Warid deployed the Edge equipment on its cell sites and kept on testing it for so long (Ericsson guyz were testing it) and its still not available to there Customers. then why an early soft launch in this case? They are advertising it on there website and its not that hard to find information (through there website) unlike the required stuff e.g. multimedia/GPRS settings :)

@ Cybean: well there were quite a few things to notice.
1- As per there Advertisements its instant where as its not. I did get a notification but when i called there help line it kept on playing the outgoing blocked message tape in the start.

2- The poor way of doing it . they should have done it through commands instead of sms. Or if not they should have advertised the 321 help line method as first priority.

3- The argument o6 60% bill is totally false as outgoing gets blocked on 90%

4- Last but no the least if i call there help line ad tell them to open my outgoing and i’ll pay tomorrow even thats more instant than this method.

I hope things are a bit more clear now?

For Edge Yasir, Warid bought EDGE enable equipment and were planning to launch it before telenor launch it but after that they were thinking that it is of no use to launch it as now they can move to 3G. As market is building up for 3G and the next technology in Pakistan Mobile phone will be it so they were than thinking to move directly to 3G although telenor and mobilink are both ahead in this regard as their Vendor is Motorola and a chinese company (i forget the name) who are sole vendors of 3G but Warid has contacted them and through Wateen he is now trying to capture this market. Also it is also rummored that Warid owners are now thinking of moving out of Pakistan so there interest over here is less and they are not as much enthusiatic about it as they were before
