Lets take a moment of silence at the death of customer Support in telecom sector. Last night a news added further to my grief that for pre-paid customer in warid there is no Tax deduction at balance charging.
. However this is not the first time in my life that I have felt bad about having a Post-paid (heavily paid instead) connection. I do often blame myself for being an idiot for paying someone loads of money who isn’t worth it but who is
Just having alot of people in good cloths, with British accents roaming around in Business Centers won’t do well enough. Let’s face it, people in business centers are not properly trained for customer support; instead they are trained to handle application used to perform different actions against a user request related to internal systems. For example I would ask a question how many people in Customer support present in business centers of different service provider know anything about telecommunication systems or lets just ask how many of them know actually how to configure a cell for their services manually. umm the answer would be no more than one person in a shift.
The story is pretty long and spans over months but I’ll cut it short. Ever since I had my imate Kjam with me I was never so interested about MMS before getting ZoomU (Had some random thoughts abt ZoomU as well but the time has passed for those). After getting zoomU somewhere around 4 months back I thought of Using MMS service on my mobile. After trying for several hours to get in contact with customer service I logged into warid’s website and used manual settings but no way it won’t ever connect and download MMS. Then I thought may be warid people or someone on the web might be intelligent enough to have released a .Cab file for the settings (most of the European providers do that) but no avail. I dialed Customer service and this time they told me that my MMS was not activated properly and I’ll have to wait for a while to get it done properly.
I tried sending receiving MMS through a set (using my sim) which could be configured automatically from warid’s sim menu and it worked (typical lies…). Then I went to Business Center and the guy there took my cell went to another guy (as I said, one guy per shift formula) and got it configured and asked me to check if it works but it didn’t. I still stood there and asked him, whats next? He was like ummm sir I don’t think so we can do anything else. We have tried and it’s a problem with your set, it won’t work. I was like ‘Come on Yaar I m an IT guy I know all this IP, Gateway bullshit’ and there is also no known problem with Kjam’s MMS (Later I got this confirmed from Imate Live Support) but no use. I was also tired of looking at his blank face so I walked away with a very solid decision in my mind that I am going to prove him wrong.
I went to my office and thought of figuring out what could possibly go wrong, took a colleague’s Kjam and tried the settings on it but no use. Then went to market and got a cell with original WM5 OS v1.9 (as mine is 2.1) and tried on that but it never worked. Finally tried that from Mobilink Sim and it worked (lets not talk about the pain a normal person would go through to find and understand those settings on “Mobilink’s User Friendly website”, but thanks to all the effort, by this time I was an expert). Viola it worked and I was sure there isn’t any problem with my Kjam MMS or OS.
Finally I figured out what was actually going wrong and lets just go through it quickly so that you also know what is going wrong if you are also not able to configure MMS on Warid.
