hmmm… few days ago a colleague said to me, “hey why don’t we make this Monday (14th of August) a working day so that we could cover the slippage in work” and we started talking about the decision when I suddenly spoke, “do you mean that the nations who work on there Independence Day prosper by leaps and bounds”. He immediately agreed. But I continued, “Do you know what happens to the Nations who work Non Stop”? Without waiting for a reply I said, “Well there life becomes mechanical and soon there society structure starts deteriorating”.
Celebrating your joyous moments is one thing and working hard to keep them coming is another. So I decided to celebrate our independence but what should be done for celebration??? Possible things that came into my mind were, let’s get my bike and drive it on Canal road on one wheel. What a way that will be to express my freedom….. i.e. The freedom beyond laws. Yelling my throat out or using pressure horns also might prove how powerful I am. But I soon came out from this Freedom Phobia when I thought, who is this we are making fool of??? Question started flooding my mind. Are we really free? If we are, do we really deserve this independence? Are we worthy as a nation to even celebrate this moment?
Sadly I couldn’t answer most of those questions but how could I. It could have been a lot easier if I would have gotten some time out of my busy schedule to think about what I have been up to for last few years. Suddenly I realized I have also become one of those self centric Robots who work days and nights out just to achieve what they ever wanted. Racing from one achievement to another and not even having time to stop by and think about what they have given to others or for that matter to there country.
Living a purposeless life (the kind of breed we have in abundance in our country) is a popular strategy. There are many kinds i.e.
Those who have nothing to do but to keep whining about there miserable lives.
Those who have no one else but themselves in there self-centric lives.
Those who don’t have the guts to blame themselves for there unfortunate lives, so they pick on there country for everything they don’t have.
The place is full of them; I guess it’s about time we should realize where we are heading. If we consider ourselves auditable and consider those who we select to be our leaders auditable to us, if we utilize energy of our younger generation in positive manner (by providing them proper education & sports facilities) and also taking some time out of our busy schedule to just sit and think about what we have done in our lives and how much we have given back to our country as compared to what it has given to us. Only then we can call ourselves free and have a right to celebrate this gift.
