After months of survey and some help from hellion(a friend from Wccftech), I finally bought a new mobile phone. And here I have in my hand something that was worth all the effort and money spent.
Yes I finally updated to an imate kjam from a nokia 3100 :p~. I have been using it for past 3 weeks now and finally decided to write a review.
Intro
For these 3 weeks I have been using different sorts of high end mobiles(pocket pcs, smart phones) like Imate jam, kjam, pda2k, 6630, blackberry etc. And I simply can’t stop myself from falling In love with this thing (note: all the mentioned cells in above line are very cool in there price ranges.)
This baby can do anything in this world u want it to do… From using msn to surfing, sending sms to synchoronising all ur emails at one place, streaming multimedia from the web and computer networks, from sharing computer folders to using remote desktops.. Anything is possible at very sensible speeds.
First Encounter
The day I bought it I decided to do some benchmarks so I logged into msn (to my surprise It brought all my emails from hotmail to outlook2003) started chatting with around 7 ppl, with that I launched windows media player v10 (comes integrated) and set few of my favourite songs to play. After that I launched internet explorer and logged into my office website and did some office work and with that opened outlook and checked emails from 3 of my email accounts(office, hotmail, worldcall). With all those activities running side by side I was not expecting good results but to my surprise I didn’t even suffer any performance slowdowns for once. (the OMAP 200MHZ processor was a concern for me but it performs if not equally then atleast good enough if compared with an intel 400MHZ….)
Key Features
1) Touch screen(with an unconventional stylus which I like the most)
2) Usb, IR, bluetooth, wifi(802.11) connectivity
3) A very very handy keyboard (helps alot if u want to avoid onscreen keyboard)
4) 1.3 MP camera with flash
5) Programable action buttons
6) Dual speakers (one on each side to give very realistic sound)
7) Great networking abilities(can appear on any computer network lan using bluetooth, usb cable or wifi)
Vpn connectivity and remote desktop
9) Free support on clubimate.com
10) Full multimedia integration with pc(playing videos from network without any glitches)
11) High end video and mp3 support (rip ur dvds and enjoy crisp quality @ unimagineable speeds)
12) Full office integration using any sort of networks
13) Full email integration
14) Builtin handwriting recognition modules
15) User friendliness at its best, from swicthing between msn windows to other stuff.
And the list goes on and on and on……
A comprehensive list can be found on clubimate.com .. There are a lot of features that I didn’t mention because I wanted to highlight the critical ones only.
All this coming in a size which is much more easy to handle than a pda.
Downsides
1) No custom tones for alarms (although on web few ways have been mentioned which are not working for me. However who cares cause its just a matter of installing one of those thousands of softwares out there to make it happen)
2) No memory card included in the package. Which adds few more bucks to the package.
Interesting Stuff
Just thought of doing some GPRS benchmarks. Which in the end gave quite interesting results.
Warid @ 31.5 kbps (which is almost equal to normal dialups available here)
Ufone @ 25.5 kbps (sounds good enough)
Mobilink @ 15.5 kbps (ahhh crap what else we could expect.)
Note: the gprs benchmarks might give different results at different times(rush hours and other probs etc.)
